Linking Directly to Webpage's

I've found a couple of threads on the XWAUP Forums, where people have linked directly to individual webpage's on my site, instead of linking to the main webpage which is http://www.darksaber.xwaupgrade.com I have asked in the past for people not to link directly but it still happens. Therefore the pages that have been linked too have been replaced until the people responsible have learnt there lesson, making it harder for everyone else to view those pages.

The replaced pages will remain for around 14 days or more, or until the link has been changed on the XWAUP forum, and it will go on until people learn not to link directly, but only to my main page www.darksaber.xwaupgrade.com!!!

UPDATE to the Firespray Attack Ship

I've had a report from Rogue518, that when flying the Firespray against other Firespray's the game crashed to desktop, I have since fixed this and tested it, it will no longer crash (fingers crossed)

The problem was that one of the meshes had over 300 unneeded faces causing the opt to crash when hit with either a laser or missile

I can assure you it had nothing to do with the installer this time :) when installing this version it will overwrite the old opt solving the problem.

You can download the updated version from the Hosted Craft section under Master Qui-Gon

I have also added the Luxury Yacht to his page as requested by Master Qui-Gon

Enjoy!

NEW Firespray Attack Ship

Master Qui-Gon has pulled another one out of the hat or in other words from Star Wars Galaxies this time its the Firespray Attack Ship or known to everyone as the Slave 1

There are three options for the Firespray Attack Ship which you can install.

  1. Option 1: This version has the standard lasers as seen on the old Totally Games version, which are Green Lasers on the turrets at the bottom and the Missiles coming from the middle guns as I can't remove of those guns, but if you look at the TG version the missiles are place around that same point.

  2. Option 2: This version will fire Yellow lasers with missiles placed in exactly the same positions as Option 1, but the only drawback to this is, that you do not hear any laser fire sounds and I don't know how to fix this.

  3. Option 3: This option fires Red lasers from the middle guns, turbo red lasers from the turrets and missiles placed under the turrets, as seen on Jango Fett's Slave 1 in Attack of the Clones, which makes this version of the Firespray more powerful.

You can download it from the new Hosted Craft section for Master Qui-Gon

If you haven't noticed already General Trageton has released his Victory-I class Star Destroyer you can either download it from the X-Wing: Alliance Upgrade Project or from GT's website Vince's X-Wing HQ

On another note a NEW Trailer for the upcoming Order of the Sith: Vengeance has been released just follow the link on the right-hand side to the website.

Oh and hope you all had a Happy Xmas

Enjoy!

Rebel Medium Transport Update

Marco noticed a strange shadowing effect on some of the containers, this has since been fixed, so please download the Rebel Transport again.

Also if you downloaded the Rebel Transport on the day of release 14/11/04 there was a error in the first release this error screwed up the Spacecraft0.lst.

To fix this go to the backup folder C:\Program Files\LucasArts\XwingAlliance\Bachup\BackupCraft

And copy the Spacecraft0.lst file from that folder to C:\Program Files\LucasArts\XwingAlliance and replace the older version.

Download this NEW version and install.

Enjoy!

Marco Antonio Malheiros has done it again with his wonderful looking Rebel Medium Transport, it's been sometime since he has released anything but this has been worth the wait.

I think your going to love this one, so please go to the Hosted section for Marco Antonio Malheiros and download it.

Another one to grab is the Luxury Yacht/Lady Luck made by Master Qui-Gon which can be download from the X-Wing: Alliance Upgrade Project

Oh if your looking for older news please go to the Archived Section for 2004

Twin Engined Scimitar

Fenris from the XWAUP Forums emailed me and asked if I would make a version of the Scimitar Assault Bomber with Twin Engines instead of the single engine version I first made,

As you know "TIE" stands for Twin Ion Engine so I have made a few changes and added a second engine, some of you may argue that the Scimitar isn't a true Tie Fighter, but an Assault Bomber anyhow either way you have your choice of which one you prefer and you can download both from the Imperial Fighters #1 Section

Please note though that these craft are still in zip files

Dreadnaught Updated

Before I mention the Updated Dreadnaught I would like to congratulate both Oliver and Gayle on their forthcoming marriage next Saturday 23rd October, if you don't know Ol host this website.

So all the best to you both.

Ok now to the Dreadnaught, as promised on the XWAUP forums I have updated the Dreadnaught to include destroyable weapon systems, Oh and I have updated both of Matt's ISD's which are still awaiting release at the XWAUP, don't know when you will get those though, best thing would be to start another topic on the XWAUP forum for them to be released. I've done my part as they are both available for the members in the private forum.

Anyhow if you wish to download the Updated Dreadnaught please visit the XWAUP Starships Section

Also Carlos who is one of the hosts for the Ultimate Craft Pack, emailed me to inform me that he has changed servers so the link has been changed.

Thanks Carlos

Order of the Sith News

Great News from Marcus Lewis who made the Order of the Sith Fan film, you already know that Michael Sheard a.k.a. Admiral Ozzel from ESB and Jeremy Bulloch a.k.a. the original Boba Fett are part of the cast for his new venture Vengeance of the Sith.

Well guess who he has now?

Its none other than Dave Prowse the original Dark Lord of the Sith

Dave and Marcus meet

Read what Marcus has to say

"I went down to film today - understandably I'm over the moon!. It was a great pleasure to meet him and to chat with him about all sorts of things. Quite apart from the cameo for the film, he has agreed to help us with the charity side of things.

As you may already know, rather than keep my immense good luck of having 3 original cast members to myself, I wanted to see if we can raise a bit of money for charity because of it. The basic idea is that if you enjoy the film when you see it, then please go and give a bit of money to charity! Order of the Sith has been downloaded 10000 times: Vengeance should top that - if everyone gives just a dollar/pound/euro/whatever, then the while thing will have been a resounding success.

Dave is Vice-President of the P.H.A.B. club, which helps disabled people the world over - as I too have had involvement with this particular charity, I suggested we could donate to this. It will take a bit of time to set up, but if it all goes to plan, then you will be able to donate straight to PHAB from Dave's secure server. Of course this also means that the film will also be promoted there too......."

The Charity sounds like a fantastic idea, I for one will be donating something and I hope the rest of you will also. Just to let you know that the Order of the Sith has already reached 10,000 downloads so far and growing every day.

Other News

If you haven't already seen the XWAUP have released another Starship this time it's the Modified Corvette by Gringlas and Marcus Edson so why are you still here? Stop reading this and go and download it from XWAUP

New Release at the XWAUP

After month of what seems to be no progress at the X-Wing: Alliance Upgrade Project

JM from the XWA Expansion Guide pulls one out of the hat, this time around he gives us the Modified Action Transport

This is what JM has to say about it:-

Although the original model did not have the same severe shading problems on my system as it had on Gank's the original model was rather simple as it had been created by Zeelich for Homeworld and so I remodeled most of the ship using Gank's excellent textures for reference. This extra detail in the model enhanced the textures nicely and made this rather a satisfactory OPT, although I confess to wishing more of the attractiveness was down to my model rather than Gank's textures.

You can download this new Craft from either the X-Wing: Alliance Upgrade Project or JM's website XWA Expansion Guide.

Other News

Well I seem to have lost some news, so I was wondering if anyone saved this page before August 20th 2004 and still has it could you send it to me. Thanks

General News

Due to unforeseen circumstances General Trageton from Vince's X-Wing HQ who was one of the european hosts for the Ultimate Craft Pack has had to remove it from his server. So I would like to give him a BIG THANK YOU for hosting it for the time that he has.

Thanks mate

Other News

I'm a little late with this news but Ol who kindly host's my website has released a pack of mission fixes for the Ultimate Craft Pack.

This is what Ol has to say about them:-

Quote "This xmod is designed only for use with Darksaber's UCP. It is only necessary for upgrades of X-Wing Alliance.

This Xmod contains two options:

UCP Missions fix - This fixes the following missions for use with the UCP and the most recent XWAU releases. B0M4 - Container Gs no longer overlap and destroy each other. B1M1 - ATR and SHU no longer crash into the Calamari Cruiser. B1M4 - Fighters no longer crash when docking. B5M2 - FRG Jericho no longer destroyed by freighters.

SSD and ICRS - This options fixes the missions for the use of the 17.6km SSD opt replaces the Independence with the MC-85 Home One opt. You only need to select these if you chose to use the 17.6km SSD when you installed the UCP

These missions are modifications of the missions included in the original X-Wing Alliance game by Totally Games and LucasArts and remain their copyright."

You can download the new mission pack from Ol's X-Wing Alliance Mission Site or click on the pic below:-

Ol's X-Wing Alliance Mision Site

Last but no least

There is a X-Wing & TIE Fighter 95 Compatibility Fix that has been released by Cwagle the Jedi aka Craig Perry.

This is what he has to say about it:-

Quote "This compatibility fix when installed will provide Windows 2000/XP with the compatibility settings required for these operating systems to run the X-Wing Collector Series and X-Wing Trilogy versions of X-Wing & TIE Fighter (Also known as X-Wing 95 & TIE Fighter 95) with Hardware 3D Graphics acceleration turned on. The fix also stops the TIE Fighter Launcher from asking you to install DirectX 5.2."

NEW Webhost

Well if you have visited the old Darksaber's X-Wing Station web address you will have been redirected to here, and as you can see I've moved.

Sounds stupid I know but I've just upgraded to Broadband, but when I tried to access my original ISP, I couldn't send emails or access my FTP server, so even though broadband is fast it does have it drawbacks, well with mine anyhow.

So I put out a request. begging for someone to host Darksaber's X-Wing Station, and to my delight

Ol from the

Tie Fighter Total Conversion

came up trumps, I can't thank him enough for saving my site.

So make sure you Bookmark the new site and remember to update your links to the new address, also my email has changed use this address to Contact Me

Oh if your thinking of downloading any of the XWAUP craft DON'T, well not just yet anyhow, I'm in the process of updating them to executable files, so just wait for a few days and I'll let you know when they are up.

Other XWA News, Michal from the Czech X-Wing Series Site (with a little help from me) has released the Imperial Combat Chamber along with updated versions of the Imperial Concourse and Techroom.

Imperial Combat Chamber

So please visit his site and download them.

One last thing REMEMBER TO BOOKMARK the NEW address and add my new email account to your address book and DELETE the old one of as from now you WILL not get reply from from this address!

Time For A Clear Out Again

The time has come for a clear out again, the older news from 2004 can found in the Archived News by clicking the links above or below this news item.

Anyhow what's been going on around here, well the Craft Downloads are back up again, but don't get too excited though! Nothing has changed, it's taking me considerably longer then I thought to make the installers for the craft so until such time things will remain as they where before, with the craft in Xmod's or Zip files.

Anyhow other news, as you can see from the menu bar it's changed, hopefully it's a little tidier now! I hope you'll get used to it, but if I get too many complaints I'll change it back to the old menu scheme.

I have also moved a few things around on the menu, all hosted opts have there own section now, also some craft you won't be able to download yet.

I would also like to take this chance to thank Griffin from Crusade Tournament for allowing me to use his menu script for my own, thanks Griffin.

Ok other news as you can see the Stormtrooper Transport by Gank is available from here, he asked me to host it as he doesn't have a website of his own at the present time, though you can also download it from the X-Wing: Alliance Upgrade Project.

Not sure if you have all noticed but a NEW Imperial Concourse and Techroom have been made, you can download them both from the Czech X-Wing Series Site

 Imperial Concourse Imperial Techroom

The Imperial Concourse for X-Wing: Alliance is based on the version from TIE Fighter 95. It features a new background, animated CBM files, Imperial cursor and a few icons.

Michal from the Czech X-Wing Series Site made the background, animated CBM files and with help from Ol made a few new icons

Imperial Techroom for X-Wing: Alliance based on version from TIE Fighter 95. It features a completely new background with the animation and few icons.

Michal made the original background which I altered slightly and made a new animated AVI file from it.

I'll also point out that if you have any problems viewing the new animation you may need to download the latest DivX drivers from DivX.com

Big News about the sequal to Order of the Sith, Vengeance of the Sith. Marcus has announced that along with Michael Sheard a.k.a. Admiral Ozzel from ESB, Jeremy Bulloch who played the original Boba Fett in ROT has also very kindly offered to play a small part in his film, this is amazing news two of the original trilogy cast in one fan film, there will be some jealous amateur film makers out there.

If you not sure who Marcus is talking about here are a couple of pictures of the stars.

Craft Download NOTICE!

Sorry but until further notice all singular downloadable Craft have been suspended.

You can still download the Ultimate Craft Pack and all XWAUP craft can be downloaded from X-Wing: Alliance Upgrade Project

This is due to some upgrades to the installation of each craft, which will make it easier for all, just to let you know you will be able to install most of the custom craft to other slots besides its default slot if it has a default slot.

Please look out for further notices on this matter.

Again I apologise!

Freelancer dispute hopefully resolved

With the recent dispute with some Freelancer Mods, hopefully now this has been resolved, basically if they had just emailed me and asked permission to use my craft then permission would have been granted, I would appreciate it if full credit were to be given to all those involved in making or helping with the craft

There were a few more conditions and they are, that they only use the craft off my site but not the Cloakshape Fighter, Planetary Fighter and Escort Shuttle as these three craft are not made by me but made by Marco Antonio Malheiros and I only host them, and not to use craft that feature in the Ultimate Craft Pack as I only have a few craft of my own in this pack and the rest belong to other authors, and the last condition it that they do not use craft from the X-Wing: Alliance Upgrade Project that do not feature on this site they will need to ask permission from the various authors that have made those craft.

I hope that all these conditions can be kept as it would be pity to start some sort of Community War over this matter.

Anyhow I hope you like the temporary theme for the site, its a small tribute to Lancer Reactor and all the staff there.

Enjoy!

Big Big BIG News for Order of the Sith

Big big BIG News for Marcus Lewis Order of the Sith Fan Film maker - Michael Sheard a.k.a. Admiral Ozzel from ESB, has very kindly agreed to voice the opening crawl for Vengence of the Sith sequal to Order of the Sith. I can hardly tell you how thrilled we are to have such a highly regarded actor (and original trilogy cast member..) involved in the project. One team-member quite rightly called him a legend..... I'll update the 'links' section shortly, but for now just head to The Official Michael Sheard Site and take a look round.

Marcus also tell us they he has also been in contact with Richard LeParmentier (Admiral Motti) and Peter Sumner (Lt Pol Treidum) - both have wished us the best of luck with the project, but neither could appear due to living thousands of miles away....

If you would like yo read more please visit there site Order of the Sith

Enjoy!

Small update to the Corellian Gunship's

Sorry about this, but it was pointed out by Wraith1 himself that, there was a few problems concerning the turrets on the Gunships, namely that on the Fringed version, one of the turrets when rotating was off centre, this has now been corrected.

The second problem was that I had missed adding laser hardpoints to some of the turrets of the Default version this has now been corrected.

But when testing I discovered another problem some of the turrets didn't rotate even after making the changes above. So I looked at the TG version for reference and found that the Gunship only had 16 laser hardpoints when mine had 20, so I did a little test and removed 4 hardpoints, one off each from the small turrets and one off each from the side back turrets, and tested again, all turrets now rotated. so what I have had to do is cheat and centre the hardpoints between the two guns on the turrets. I have had to do this with both of them, so if you spot them firing from the centre of the guns that's the reason why.

So thanks goes to Wraith1 for spotting that.

I've uploaded the pack so please download it again from the XWAUP Starships section and I apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Enjoy!

"NEW" Corellian Gunship(s) Released

Another New Opt or Opts are available for you to download, the Corellian Gunship Craft Pack, comes with two versions of the craft the first one is a standard version which resembles the Totally Games craft. The second version has a fringe on the middle section which is similar to the middle section of the Corellian Corvette.

The Dxf's where made by Wraith1 the texture are all mine, the pack is in a executable format and you can only install one at a time, it includes all new Dat files for both craft.

So what are you waiting for, go to the XWAUP Starships section to download it.

I've also fixed the Lambda Shuttle, I noticed a topic on the XWAUP Forums that the laser's where firing as they say "omni-directional". The problem wasn't with the Shuttle, the actual problem was with the slot its self. Namely the weapon stats, though the default TG Shuttle and the new one have Green laser's the stats had them as Red, Since the new Shuttle only replaced the old TG version no stat changes where made, I have since fixed this by adding a patch file that will change the Red lasers to Green in the stats, so on more omni-directional laser's. Oh one more point the laser turret on the back of the shuttle is only for eye candy, it has never had any laser hardpoints fitted to it, so where people get the idea that the turret fires lasers is beyond me, I find it quite amusing really.

To download the fixed version please visit the XWAUP Shuttles section, lease note that the new download is in a executable format.

Oh and can I just point out that NO GAME MODS, UNDER ANY CONDITIONS HAVE PERMISSION TO USE THE CORELLIAN GUNSHIP(S) IN THERE OWN MODS, in the past I have granted permission for others to use my work in other games, but those that I have given permission to in the past can thank some people from the FREELANCE COMMUNITY for putting a stop to that, I gave the FREEWORLDS MOD TEAM and Michael Dan permission to use the craft from this website in there mods and there mods only, but other ARSEHOLES from the FREELANCER COMMUNITY have either ripped there mods apart or just stole my craft for use in there own mods, giving credit to the person or persons who converted them and all I get credit for is "Darksaber, for work on the TIE Package". Bullshit!

So if anyone even thinks of using any of my work for there own use or MODS, or even to bastardise and use in X-Wing Alliance, DON'T FUCKING BOTHER!

I'm Back From a Disaster

Well if you hadn't noticed I've been pretty quite for the past few month's, the reason is that my Motherboard and CPU died on me, and have only just been able to afford to bUy new ones.

Anyhow I guest I should apologise to people that have tried to email me, but had had no reply, I'm not ignoring you I just haven't received them or if I had them might have been deleted due to having to sort through around 5000 emails which took about 3 hours to download (still on dial up but hopefully not for long), most of which where bloody SPAM, in total I sorted around 30 legitimate emails.

So if you haven't had a reply in the last few days please email me again with you questions, oh can you please place XWA or Darksaber at the start of your subject line as this will make them easier to sort.

Thanks

The Good News
well since I have been away there hasn't been much at all in the XWA Community, only that JM of XWA Expansion Guide fame has made some substantial updates to his website, which are very informative. Though I did come across the Ultimate Craft Pack being called the Universal Craft Patch, which I thought quit funny :)

Oh and isildur has released a update to his 3d Studio to Optech converter he has fixed the bug where the Y and Z axis were swapped so the model is now correctly oriented in Optech.

Oh and can I just mention (this is not a dig at you isildur) but the OPT23DS converter has become the bain of the Xwing Alliance Opters life, this excellent utility is being abused by most other Starship Mod communities please read below.

The Bad News
Since I have returned I have found out that craft from the UCP and X-Wing Alliance Upgrade Project have been ripped off by the FREELANCE Community, without asking myself or any of the other authors for permission to use them. The Mods I've seen so far are by Silvik, the Author of the TIE Universe Mod and I have seen that some if not all of the Uglies I put together have been ripped off also, this is starting to piss me off now and this won't be tolerated, I will be writing a email to Freelancer Reactor and people I have mentioned, asking them to remove the craft they have stolen for there mods.

Please note that I have ONLY given permission to the Freeworlds Mod to use the craft from this site in there mod, and NOT the UCP or craft made by other authors from the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade Project.

This doesn't mean that every Tom, Dick or Silvik can come along an include the craft which I have given permission to use in the Freeworlds Mod or another Freelancer Mod and use them in there own bastard mods, plus the conversion which they have done have been totally cocked and look a frigging mess.

So if any of you Freelance Wankers that read THIS intend to include any of my craft in your mods without asking me first for permission be warned I'm on your trail and I won't stop until I have tracked you down.

"NEW" Planetary Fighter Released

I'm really pleased to bring you yet another of Marco Antonio Malheiros fabulous models, this time around he presents to you the Planetary Fighter, this wonderful looking craft comes with Exterior, Cockpit and Base Opts.

I'll let Marco tell you a few facts, this model was developed exclusively on the original ship from the game, since I wasn't able to find any other references. Therefore a problem shows up, the fighter is described as being large, but with it having an R2 unit in the back, represented in the original model with a bitmap, this bitmap should give a clue of the fighter’s overall size. Very well, if we consider the fighter's size by the model in the game, we then have an R2 unit which is almost 1.80m in height! Obviously something was wrong. Besides, the cockpit size allowed for 4 people to be accommodated comfortably! It was clear that the ship in the game was the wrong size. I scaled the model so that the R2 unit painted in the back was correct in size. Even so the cockpit was still very large. In discussions with Darksaber we decide that the fighter must be tandem. I hope that the changes please everybody.

The models comes in the form of a convenient installer allowing for easy installation.

So what are you waiting for go to the XWAUP General Fighters section and download it!

Other news around the X-Wing: Alliance world is that Abolisher has been accepted as a member of the X-Wing: Alliance Upgrade Project with the release of his excellent looking Asteroid Pack.

Enjoy!

Order of the Sith - Fan Film

Instead of trying to explain how Order of the Sith came about I'll quote what author Marcus Lewis has to say about it:-

Order of the Sith started in Dec 2002, after our friend John brought his digital camera to our band practice. I (Marcus) had just finished building myself a lightsaber, having been somewhat astonished at being asked to pay £400 for what amounted to little more than a metal tube. I took the semi-finished article along to show it off, and John filmed it for 5 seconds or so. The result looked fantastic - all 3 of us frothed at how great it looked on film. So Rob and I decided we should film a reconstruction of the Carbon Chamber fight for a laugh.

Except we took it a lot further.. I decided that we might as well make a fan film of sorts. Bearing in mind I had never made a film before, I had no idea what to do, or how to plan. But I didn't let it stop me - I wanted to be in a Star Wars film! After we'd decided a rough premise, we had a mental checklist of everything needed to make a proper Star Wars movie:

  1. Lightsaber fights
  2. Darth Vader
  3. Space battles
  4. Space station exploding
  5. Bad acting

With all elements in place, I had to figure out how on earth to achieve it. First, with no experience of 3DStudio or Lightwave (and certainly no money to buy them), I decided to use video games as the main workhorse. X-Wing Alliance comes with a fantastic film room, and all the craft upgrades from sites like Darksaber's X-Wing Station made life easier. I had to write my own mission in an editor, play it through and film it. Then I used Fraps to capture the screens. For the inside of the station, I used Jedi Outcast as a virtual set.

Armed with a rough story board, plenty of masks and neon tubes, we covered a warehouse in hardboard and painted it green. And then proceeded to act badly. The sound was a bit easier for me as I had recorded 3 albums of my own beforehand, but syncing with the video files proved to be a nightmare..

After a year of messing/faffing and generally winging it, Order of the Sith was finished. Enjoy.

On the site you will find the Fan film itself, a trailer, 'behind the scenes', as well as screenshots, wallpapers and DVD case inserts for those of you sad enough to burn it to disc (it does look good on the shelf next to all the other movies though..)!
